Linus Pauling was a two-time Nobel prize winner on his work with biochemistry, he was a brilliant scientist (1901-1994), he was one of the first scientists to study the effects of high dose vitamin C on humans and even when other doctors scoffed at his finding during the 60’s and 70’s todays world of medicine have admitted how valid his findings were.
I have been working with individuals since 2000 on their health, one of the tests I use is an Oxidative stress test and with this test we can see vitamin C deficiencies. Most of us are very deficient, one thing that is happening is people are not taught how to properly dose vitamin C. The best way to find out how much you need is to take until bowel tolerance. So today I take a thousand milligrams, next day two thousand, so on until you have loose stool, diarrhea. Then you go back to the dose before diarrhea and that is your amount you need. Don’t be alarmed if you can do 10,000mgs and you still haven’t reached your goal. Some of us use a lot of vitamin C, today I still believe vitamin C deficiencies were one of the reasons I stayed so sick in my earlier years. We are the only mammals besides hamsters that doesn’t make our own C. That’s why it’s so important to take it. There are always controversy over which type to take, I believe the only thing that matters is your C is not a GMO or synthetic form. Liposomal, ester-c, ascorbic acid has all worked for me. In Europe one of the common practices for treating cancer is to heat up the body with infrared saunas and then do an I.V. infusion of C to kill cancer cells. It’s a way that is very effective. If you are working with an integrative doctor, it’s one of the common practices for their cancer patients as well.
If someone in your life is having issues with their skin tearing easily make sure they are taking C, it is the glue that binds collagen and very important for tissue repair. I use topical products I get from my aesthetician that are full of C. So, the internal/ external effect is even greater.
Scurvy is a disease discovered in the 18th century that was caused by vitamin C deficiencies, swollen bleeding gums and wounds reopening. One thing I have found is people who are having issues with their adrenals not responding to adrenal formulas is usually improved when we increase their vitamin C.
Oxidative stress is created on a cellular level when free radicals are greater than antioxidants in your body. Under the microscope I’ve seen cells hemolyze due to oxidative stress, i.e., drank to much the night before the testing, which doesn’t take much to create cellular damage, not sleeping well, diabetic or insulin resistant, heavy workout, smoking/vaping, can all cause cells to oxidize, C will help combat those effects. From colds to cancer vitamin see is our answer.
Can we eat enough of our vitamin C? I really wish we could, oranges have too much sugar so what little c is there isn’t enough to even come close, and please don’t think orange juice or any fruit juice for that matter to be healthy for you. Fresh lemon or lime in water is great but you should still up your dosage and see how much your body needs. People with kidney disease have been warned not to take C because of the concerns of oxalates building up in the bones and soft tissue. If you have an opportunity to work with a doctor who understands nutrition then you should take their advice, find one that can help you make your decisions about your medical needs. Foods that are high in vitamin C, Bell peppers, broccoli, brussels sprouts, strawberry, cauliflower, papaya, cantaloupe, tomatoes, kale, potatoes, spinach, parsley, cabbage, chili peppers, kohlrabi, mustard greens, red cabbage, carrots, asparagus, turnips, guava, and kiwi. There are more I’m sure unfortunately our top soil has been depleted of nutrients so our food supply isn’t giving us enough of what we need, supplement with a high quality vitamin C.
Some of the issues vitamin C helps with we have talked about skin, cancer, scurvy, high blood pressure, common cold, age related macular degeneration, preeclampsia, asthma, osteoarthritis, eczema, hay fever, alleviates dry mouth from taking antidepressants, helping with sunburn acts as a natural sun screen, bleeding gums, & viral issues.
Different types of vitamin C
Liposomal, a fat soluble form of vitamin c meant to better absorb into the tissues, delivers it to the cells faster than other forms. Ascorbic acid, most common, least expensive, can be too acidic for some and tough on the digestive tract a lot are harvested from corn, always stay with the brands that are non-gmo. Mineral ascorbates, less acidic like ester-c which is calcium ascorbate best if it has the bioflavonoids and rose hips with it for more bioavailability according to some.
Try to eat a diet full of variety and all colors of the rainbow, add additional non gmo vitamin c to bowel tolerance and see how your health improves be sure to work with a integrative doctor before trying anything especially if you are dealing with kidney issues. Vitamin c is water soluble, you wont store it up be sure to take it every day.
